[Heritage] The circular villages of the Aude

The Aude has 17 circular villages or circulades, in other words, built in a circle around a church or a castle.

These villages are a feature of the Languedoc. The Hérault has 25 and Gard 4.
The word and concept of circulade were proposed in 1992 by an architect of Polish origin. Once these villages were simply called “round”.
